All groups planning to arrive on the "Start Day" of their trip, should arrive at Pack Shack Adventures, Inc. at no later than 7:00 a.m. Groups may choose to arrive on Sunday, the day before their trip "Start Day" (this is strongly suggested). Groups arriving Sunday may choose to tent in the back yard, camp at a local camp ground, or stay in one of the local motels (to see the list of motels, click here). Upon arrival, tents and waterproof bags will be issued and your personal gear and equipment will be packed into waterproof bags. The group will then be instructed in river rules and etiquette, which will be followed by a safety video. Monday, the trip starts at approximately 10:00 a.m., at Port Jervis, NY with basic canoeing, paddling and safety skills. We will be paddling approximately 10-12 miles each day. Our approximate paddling schedule is:
| Day 1: Port Jervis | Minisink Island | 14 miles |
| Day 2: Minisink Island | Mill Creek Area | 10 miles |
| Day 3: Mill Creek Area | Walpack Bend | 12 miles |
| Day 4: Walpack Island | LaBar Island | 10 miles |
| Day 5: LaBar Island | Delaware Water Gap | 6 miles |
We will be off the river approximately 2:00 p.m. and return to Pack Shack Adventures, Inc. for a cook out, cleaning and check in of gear, and presentation of trip tee shirts and certificates. Groups may choose to leave for home or stay over and head home on Saturday.
Pack Shack opened as the Pocono Mountain's first "true mountaineering" store in May 1974. We ran our first Adventure Trip in 1975 as we took a group to Grand Canyon, AZ for a two week backpacking trip. We also started the Poconos first Technical Rock Climbing School and a complete Cross Country Skiing Center. We have been offering quality high adventure trips ever since. In August 1976, Pack Shack Adventures, Inc. was formed as a part of Pack Shack to offer a variety of outdoor activities and adventures. In the summer of 1985 we ran our first 5 Day / 50 Mile Canoe Adventure with the Boy Scouts. It soon became our most popular adventure trip. We have operated since 1974 with an accident free safety record, and are licensed by the National Park Service and are insured. All of our senior guides are trained in CPR, Lifesaving, First Aid, and River Rescue, as well as completing our own in-house 18 hour guide training program. We are constantly striving to remain the best outfitters, offering the best outdoor adventures in the Poconos.
