Appalachian Trail TreksPack Shack Adventures, Inc. offers two to five day Appalachian Trail Treks. The Treks are designed as a pleasant introduction to backpacking; covering equipment, equipment use, suggested packing techniques, back country safety and etiquette, minimum impact camping, and environmental care. The TrailOur treks will cover between 8 to 14 miles per day, depending on the group. Treks will start north of the Delaware Water Gap, and will follow the Kittatinny Mountain ridge until it descends down to the scenic Delaware River. The trail may vary from an old logging road too a rocky glacial deposit. The ridge leads through some of Pennsylvania's plush woodlands which is a combination of mixed deciduous hardwoods as well as coniferous trees. Many outstanding views can be seen from atop the mountain ridge we will be hiking. Some of these views may include a beautiful glacial lake, vistas overlooking the river valley and a sixty-foot-high tower offering a splendid 360-degree view. WildlifeThere are many different species of animals and birds that inhabit the surrounding forest. While on your trip you may be fortunate enough to observe deer, black bear, fox raccoon, coyote and squirrels, just to name a few. Overhead, eagles, hawks, osprey, herons and a variety of other birds soar. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is also home to numerous species of plants and wildflowers. Your TripYour trip includes: All Meals and snacks starting with lunch the first day and ending with lunch the last day, backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent, personal mess kit, water bottles, all group cook gear, wilderness whistle, P.S.A. instructor/guide(s), and shuttle between our base and the trail. Cost and ReservationsThe cost for this adventure is $200.00 per person plus 6% sales tax. A non-refundable deposit of $75.00 per person is due when booking your trip. The balance and all paperwork is due a minimum of three weeks prior to your trip. Other Backpacking TripsPack Shack Adventures, Inc. is currently developing new backpacking trips to expand our offerings. They will include: trips to the Adirondack Mountains and the Catskill Mountains. Trips combining backpacking and canoeing will soon be available also.
