Questions and Answers

When are you open?

While Pack Shack Adventures, Inc. is open all year round, we are open for canoeing and other water sports 7 days a week, from mid April through the end of October (depending on weather conditions). Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. midweek, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.

Are reservations necessary?

Although not mandatory, a reservation is strongly suggested. Many weekends are sell out, and people who show up without a reservation are disappointed. You also save $2.00 per person with a reservation.

How do I make a reservation?

Call us at 1-800-424-0955 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., 7 days a week. A credit card number will hold your reservation or you may send a deposit of $10.00 per person, per day. Groups (10 or more) must give a $10.00 per person, per day deposit at time of reservation to get the group price. Without advance deposits, discounts will not apply.   Personal checks are accepted if received 10 days prior to your trip. Mastercharge, Visa, Discover, and American Express are accepted anytime.

What about cancellations?

You may cancel up to 48 hours prior to your trip without penalty. After that, no refunds. In case of rain (at our location) your deposit will be refunded or you can reschedule. Once on the river, however, there are no refunds due to weather.

What about rain?

Believe it or not, many people go out in the rain. The river is much quieter and wildlife is more plentiful. The fog hangs low in the river valley and the rain drops dance on the surface of the water giving the river a mystical mood. It's worth seeing at least once.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear appropriate clothing for the weather, since you are on the water a swimsuit is a good first layer. Always wear footwear. Bring a change of clothes, towel, sun protection, hat, lunch and drinks (bring or buy here). Cameras, binoculars, fishing equipment, and snorkeling gear is fun, but optional.

Are alcoholic beverages permitted?

Yes, but it is not encouraged! Alcohol is limited to three 12 oz cans of beer per person per day. If you appear intoxicated, you are subject to arrest and removal from the river by the National Park Rangers. We will not rent to you if you are intoxicated. NO glass is permitted on the river and ALL trash must be packed out to your pickup point.

Is there an age limit?

People of any age can enjoy a river adventure; however, children must be able to swim and over two years old to be properly fitted with a life jacket.

Do I need a guide or experience?

No. This is a user friendly section of river and everyone gets pre-trip instruction and orientation along with a river map. Guides are available to enhance your trip, but are not necessary. Guides must be set  up well in advance.

Is fishing allowed?

Yes, but if you are 16 years or older, you must have either a PA or NJ fishing license. The Delaware River contains trout, sunfish, perch, rock bass, eel, shad, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, muskelunge and catfish.
